Thank you for registering to come to my little Canadian city of Nanaimo B.C. in April! Here’s where things stand!

The Date

This morning, I called the City and tourism board. (Got voicemails, but hopefully will hear back today.) Once I talk to them, I’ll set the official date of this thing, probably in the next couple of days.

(It is likely to be April 25-27 but that is not confirmed yet — please do not book anything yet until I lock this down lol.)

Activities to Do When You’re Here

I’ve revamped the web site, and I’ve got a new “What to Do When We’re There” page up. There are 1-, 2-, and 3-day suggested itineraries for foodies, music lovers, couples, art lovers, island hoppers, and more!

Or if you’d rather explore on your own, there are links to things to do for everyone — golfers, beer lovers, LGBT+ travellers, people with kids, and like 10 other categories.

Discord Hosts!

Our Discord now has channels with local hosts in it, so if you have questions about immigrating to Canada, or LGBT+ events and places, or mountain biking, or details for people with disabilities, a Nanaimo local is in there waiting to answer your questions!

How to Get to Nanaimo

I did two videos about this this weekend. Here they are:

There are also apparently ferry options direct from Washington State to Victoria (which is a 90 minute drive from Nanaimo). I have not taken these, so I don’t have any first-hand information about them.

  • Black Ball Ferry Line (MV Coho): Operates between Port Angeles, WA, and Victoria. Vehicle and passenger ferry. Crossing time: ~90 minutes.

  • Victoria Clipper: Passenger-only ferry from downtown Seattle to Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Crossing time: ~2 hours and 45 minutes. High-speed catamaran.
