The only “official” event

We are confirmed at the Maffeo Sutton downtown park on Saturday (April 26) at 10:00 a.m. for a huge family photo! The mayor and local dignitaries will be on hand to welcome you to Canada and our city. Here is the parking information.

I expect this to only last about 15-20 minutes, then you’re free to keep exploring our shops, restaurants, scenery, parks, brewpubs, and more! 🙂 

Also happening:

• FRIDAY (April 25) — Maffeo Sutton will host our amazing eclectic food trucks and a local market.

• SATURDAY (April 26) — In addition to our group, there’ll be a really cool (and probably big)! Tai Chi event under the spirit square, and they say you can join in any time throughout the morning!

Get your red lanyards!

Make sure you pick up and pack some cheap red or Canada-flag lanyards! That will be the way you’ll be able to identify each other on the ferry, in the airport lounges, in Nanaimo, etc.

I’m telling you. Our Discord is where it’s at.

Honestly, the Discord (which is like a bunch of chat rooms) is hopping! We have interest groups like beer, parents, games, theatre, music, vintage shopping, fishing, and much more!

And the best part is the #adopt-an-american channel where you post a little about yourself and your group, and a local Nanaimo resident might offer to be your buddy for the weekend — pick you up at the ferry, take you around to their favourite places, etc.

Joining the Discord is easy — just go to https://discord.gg/nanaimo. You can use it entirely through a web browser; you don’t need to download the app if you don’t want to.
