4 days left: Details You Should Know

Tod’s Nanaimo Infusion
4 days left! April 25-27

We are only four days away, and some American visitors have already started arriving in town to get a jumpstart on seeing the mid-Island!

Okay, some important details that many of you have been asking about.

In This Email

📷 Be There: Saturday 10 AM!

This is the only “official” event.

It will be at Maffeo Sutton park [map] on the Saturday (April 26th) at 10:00 a.m. SHARP! (Dogs are welcome in the park.)

The mayor will be there to welcome you, our local MLA has gifts for you all, and then we’ll take a big family photo. (It’ll also be my birthday!)

Some people have asked how they can thank us for doing this. Come to this Family Photo. That’s how. ❤️

❗Red Lanyard = Discounts!

Wearing a red (or Canada-flag) lanyard will help local store owners know you’re one of our treasured guests — some stores and restaurants are giving discounts to people wearing them. (Yes, locals can wear them too!) It will also help you all identify each other as you travel, and that way you can say hi!

You can get them anywhere — dollar stores, Amazon (if you must), and so on.

About Gabriola Island

Gabriola Island is a little residential island right off the coast of Nanaimo (a quick ferry ride gets you there). Someone who lives there sent me this helpful (and also kind of hilarious) set of helpful tips:

🛳️ If you come to Gabriola, know that our ferry fare is a round trip.

🍺 The Skol pub at the terminal is closed.

🦃 Yes, those are turkeys. Yes, they are giving you side eye but it’s nothing to worry about. Like what you get from a sea lion.

🍽️ If you’re looking for something to eat between 3:00 and 5:00 the deli is your only option. It’s opposite the skateboard park (and probably a turkey) on North Road in the village. If you want a pub, the only option is the Surf. It’s a long walk from the ferry.

🦦 There’s otters about, they are cute, but they are not happy about it. Keep your distance.

🦚 That loud honking you hear are horny peacocks on the make trying to scare off other horny peacocks on the make.

🦌 Lastly, watch for deer on the road. If you see one look for the other one following it, they travel in pairs.

Phone Number If You Need Help

If you get stuck and urgently need help with information (like you’re on the road but are confused about how to get to the ferries, etc.) call Tourism Nanaimo at 250-751-1556.

(If you can’t get ahold of them and you’re really stuck, check your email for this email which went out Monday night and you can find my phone )
